- John was scalded in a vat of boiling lye at Mishawaka Paper Mills on Friday evening. He was able to head his head above the liquid and call for help. He lived until 8:15 AM, Saturday morning. Others were able to pull him out of the vat, but flesh and clothing just hung from his body. [Source: Plymouth Republican, Jan 16, 1891]. psg
