Saint «b»Itta«/b» or «b»Itta of Metz«/b» (also «i»Ida«/i», «i»Itte«/i» or «i»Iduberga«/i») (592-652), was the wife of «u»Pepin of Landen «/u», «u»mayor of the palace «/u» of «u»Austrasia «/u». Her brother was «u»Saint Modoald «/u», «u»bishop of Trier«/u». Her sister was abbess Saint Severa. Their father was «u»Arnoald «/u», «u»Bishop of Metz «/u», son of «u»Ansbertus «/u».
On the advice of the missionary bishop «u»Saint Amand «/u», «u»bishop of Maastricht «/u», after Pepin's death, she founded the «u»Benedictine «/u» nunnery at «u»Nivelles «/u», with a monastery under the abbess. She herself entered it and installed as «u»abbess «/u» her daughter «u»Gertrude «/u», perhaps after resigning the post herself.
She had by Pepin another daughter, Abbess «u»Begga of Andenne «/u» who married «u»Ansegisel «/u», son of «u»Arnulf of Metz «/u». By Begga, she is the grandmother of «u»Pepin of Herstal «/u» and one of the matriarchs of the great «u»Carolingian «/u» family. Her only son was «u»Grimoald «/u», later mayor of the palace, and father of King «u»Childebert the Adopted «/u».
Both her daughters were later canonised, as was she. Her feast day is May 8.
