In the «u»Hebrew Bible «/u» he is the son of «u»Isaac «/u» and «u»Rebecca «/u», the grandson of «u»Abraham «/u» and «u»Sarah «/u» and of «u»Bethuel «/u», and the twin brother of «u»Esau «/u». As a result of a severe famine in «u»Canaan «/u», Jacob resettled his whole family in «u»Egypt «/u», in the «u»Land of Goshen «/u», at the time when his son Joseph was viceroy. Jacob died there 17 years later, and Joseph carried Jacob's remains to the land of Canaan, where he gave them stately burial in the same «u»Cave of Machpelah «/u» as were buried Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca and Jacob's wife Leah («u»Genesis 49:29-50:14 «/u»).
