«b»Wallia«/b» or «b»Valia«/b» (in «u»Spanish «/u» «i»Walia«/i», in «u»Portuguese «/u» «i»Vália«/i») was king of the «u»Visigoths «/u» from 415 to 419, earning a reputation as a great warrior and prudent ruler. He was elected to the throne after «u»Athaulf «/u» and then «u»Sigeric «/u» were assassinated in 415.

«/b»Early on, Wallia made peace with Emperor «u»Honorius «/u» and accepted a treaty with the «u»Roman Empire «/u». He also returned Honorius' sister «u»Galla Placidia «/u» to him. As gains from these arrangements, Wallia was granted «u»Aquitaine «/u» in 417 as a region where the Visigoths would be based as official allies or «u»«i»foederati «/u»«/i». He established his court in «u»Toulouse «/u», which became the Visigothic capital for the rest of the fifth century.
In 418 he honored the alliance by invading «u»Hispania «/u», where his army destroyed the Siling «u»Vandals «/u» and so reduced the numbers of «u»Alans «/u» living there that the survivors placed themselves under the rule of «u»Gunderic «/u», king of the Asding Vandals.
Some historical sources say that he was related to «u»Alaric «/u» only by marriage. He was succeeded by Alaric's illegitimate son or son in law «u»Theodoric «/u». Wallia's daughter married «u»Rechila «/u», King of the «u»Suevi «/u», and was the mother of «u»Ricimer «/u» and the mother in law of «u»Gundowech «/u», King of the «u»Burgundians «/u».
