«b»Odo Carrio«/b», now called «b»Carew«/b» in Pembrokeshire in Wales, to whom «b»Richard I«/b» gave Branton, co. Devon, as compensation for the loss of Emlyn. He granted Rebbard near Carew to the Knights Templar, 4 King «b»John«/b». «b»Odo De Carew«/b» was granted 20 librates of land in Devon '«i»in escambium castelli et terrae De Emelin quamdiu Resus filius Griffini ea habuerit«/i»' as compensation for the loss of the castle and lands of Emlyn (Pipe Roll 20 «b»Henry II«/b», 89). For many years thereafter, the Pipe Rolls carried the entry: '«i»20 pounds to Odo FitzWilliam FitzGerald in Branton, (Devonshire), for his claim to the castle and land of Emlyn which Rhys ap Gryffydd has«/i»'. (Pipe roll 28 Henry II., 27) In 1194, «b»Odo De Carew«/b» disputed the claim of «b»Geoffrey De Cholsey«/b» to land in Moulsford, co. Berkshire. He was succeeded by his son, «b»William FitzOdo FitzWilliam FitzGerald«/b» styled «b»William De Carew«/b».
