«b»Infanta Branca of Portugal«/b» (25 February 1259 \endash 17 April 1321; Portuguese pronunciation:«u» «/u»), «b»Blanche«/b» in English, was a Portuguese «u»infanta «/u» (princess), eldest daughter of King «u»Afonso III «/u» and his second wife «u»Beatrice of Castile «/u». She was named after her great-aunt «u»Blanche of Castile«/u», queen of France.
Branca was born in «u»Guimarães«/u», «u»Kingdom of Portugal «/u». She became a nun at the Convent of «u»Lorvão «/u» in Portugal, and after that she became the Abbess of the «u»Convent of Huelgas «/u» in Castile, where she was called «i»the Lady and Keeper«/i» of the Convent. She was titled Viscountess of Huelgas.
She died in «u»Burgos«/u», «u»Crown of Castile «/u». a city in northern «u»Spain «/u», historic capital of «u»Castile«/u».
According to Argote de Molina and de Gandara she had a natural son by a Castilian nobleman named Pedro Esteves Carpinteiro:
