knighted by «u»Queen Elizabeth <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>«/u» in 1600. Made his home first with his family at Besselsleigh and later at Appleton, Berkshire. In 1604, «b»Richard«/b» and his father, «b»Bessels«/b», founded a local elementary school to educate the children of Appleton and Besselsleigh. After «b»Bessels«/b»' death, «b»Richard«/b» endowed a charity for the distribution of bread and relief to the poor. This endowment continued into the 1920's when the fund was divided between Christmas boxes and to establish a night school "Fettiplace's Foundation and Advancement". Loaves and livery coats were still being given out up until WWII.
