IRVING HART KINNEY
Son of Peabody Julius KINNEY and Charlotte Jane, (WHITEMAN). Born March 20, 1858, Ingham Coun ty, Leroy TWP. MI. Died February 24, 1932.
It is believed that his first wife was Gertrude Moore, (No Date). He later married Minerva Pi att on January 28, 1892. They had two children, Ferne Marguerite and Paul Julius. Minerva die d in 1905 from Tuberculosis in Colorado. Ferne was 11 or 12 years old at the time and had acc ompanied her mother in the hope of her mother's recovery.
Irving later married Marguerite KUTNZ, who was a school principal in Jackson, MI. She was bor n August 14, 1873 and died in 1951. Irving and Marguerite had moved to Munith, MI shortly aft er his retirement.
Irving (I.H. as he was nicknamed), was an engineer with the New York Central Railroad. They l ived at 701 S. Pleasant St. in Jackson, MI just a short distance from the railroad yards. Jac kson was the mid point between Detroit and Chicago. This was the route which I.H. was assigne d to. Many of their neighbors also were employed by the New York Central.
Irving loved gardening and every year they would have a large vegetable garden, plus severa l fruit trees. He often told of his many experiences on the railroad. Another friend of his w ho also was an engineer experimented with the grafting of scions from one variety of fruit tr ee to that of another. The story goes that one time when his friend was at work, I.H. too k a variety of fruits and tied them on his friends' trees. When his friend returned he could n ot believe what he was seeing. So I.H.had a sense of humor.
