Republic, was born in Franklin county, Ohio July 23, 1826 and was brought to Seneca county in 1836 .. The father of our subject , Jacob Rine, was born in Franklin County Penn., April 17, 1796;died in april 1847. Soon after coming to Seneca County , he ( Jacob Rine) lost his buildings and household goods by fire; a few years later he owned 240 acres in Hopewell Township, this county , a part of which he sold, and then engaged in merchantile business in Fostoria, and, after making several changes in his place of residence, he returned to the county and gave his attention to his trade ( carpentering); he was an active man in public affairs,servering several years as justice of the peace and constable. Jacob Rine was thrice married, only his first wife,Elizabeth(Drake) bearing him children as follows; Maragret ( deceased), John Wesley, Elizabeth ( deceased) ,Mary, Fletcher, Nathan, and Alvin , all of whom attained maturity and married. Our subject received a limited education, and at the age of eighteen years entered on his career in life as a day laborer, but eventually learned the cooper's trade, In 1861 he purchased a farm in Reed Township, this county, which he sold eleven years later and bought the farm where he now lives, and has since erected a substanial residence, and made other improvements, He was married ,March 4, 1852, to Rachael Sherman, born in Cayuga , N.Y. ,April 15, 1834, daughter of Zephaniah and Margaret( Longstreet) Sherman , also natives of New York an who settled in the county in 1834, but are now residing in Clinton county, Mich.; their children Isaac, Sam,.Cyntha, Edwin, and Rachael. Mr. and Mrs Rine have had two children: Mary Jane ( deceased) and Alvin J., married Mary Feighner( Have two children, Pearl M. and Bertha C. ) Information from The Sherman Family Tree 1834: Mar 15th Rachel born in Cayuga Co. NY 1834. Rachel moved to Scipio Twp Seneca Co. Oh with her parents 1836. John Rine born Jul 23 1828 in Franklin Co. Ohio and moved to Adams Twp Seneca Co Oh with his parents 1852. Mar 4th , Rachel married John Wesley Rine in Seneca Co Oh and they lived and farmed in their early years in Adams Twp Seneca co. OH 1860 . Census of Adams Twp, Seneca Co Oh indicated; John Rine age 33, born in Ohio , farmer,$800 real & $400 personal property, Rachael Rine age 25, born in NY , child Alvin . 1861: Feb 4th, John and Rachael purchased 80 acres in Reed Twp,Sencea Co Oh for $2300( E1/2of NE 1/4 of Sec 30) 1870 : Census of Reed Twp. Seneca co, Oh indicated: John W. Rine age 43, farmer $3,500 real & $1,000 personal property ; Rachael Rine age 35, child Alvin 1870 : The Ohio State Census adds the following information to the above Federal Census , 60 acres improved and 20 acres in woodlot; value of implements $100; wages pad $100; value of livestock $450 consostong og 3 horses,2 milk cows, 5 other cattle, 24 sheep,1 swine ; produce during the year was 140 bu winter wheat, 250 bu indian corn , 200 bu oats, 120 lbs wool, 40 bu potatoes , 100 bu orchard products, 150 lbs butter, 25 tons hay; value of animal slaughtered $85; estimated value of farm production $600. 1872: Mar 13th , John and Rachael sold the 80 acres in Redd Twp for $4,000, which they had purchased in 1861. 1873. April 23rd, John and Rachael purchased 50 acres in Scipio Twp, Seneca Co Oh for $2,000 ( NE corner of NW 1/4 Sec 35 ) 1874. Oct 28th , John and Rachael purchased an additional 30 acres in Scipio Twp Seneca Co Ohio for $1,450 ( E side of SE 1/4 Sec 27 ) 1880: Census of Scipio Twp Seneca Co Oh indicated : J. W. Rine age 48, famer born Ohio; Rachael Rine age 46 born NY; son Alvin . John's age should be about 53 years. 1886 John Wesley Rine family mentioned ( History of Seneca Co., Warner-Beers & Company, 1886) 1897 . John Wesley Rine died on June 2nd or 4th 1897. The cemetery marker reads 1828-1898. The Republic area section of theTiffin Daily Tribune for Monday Jun 7, 1897 reads " the funeral services of the late J.W .Ryan ( Rine) were held at his home Friday ( June 4th) remains were interred in Union Cemetery ( later named Albright Cemetery) in Adams Twp." The cemetery is located in Adams Twp, Seneca Co. Ohio. The Bloomville area news in the Tribune for Wednesday, June 9th, 1897 reads " Wesley Ryan( Rine) an old and respected citizen living 3 miles NE of here died Friday morning (Jun4th) last week and was buried near Clyde Sunday (Jun 6, 1897) 1900. census of Scipio Twp Seneca Co Oh indicated ; Rachel Rine age 64, born Apr 1836 widow, 1 child 1 child alive, lived with son Alvin . 1909/12. Rachel died, buried next to her husband. Tombstone reads Rachel Rine 1834- blank . the date of her death could not be determined, but is thought to be between 1909-1912. 1910 . the Census did not show Rachel as living in Scipio Twp where she and her husband was located SE of Republic Oh, and where she was living with her son Alvin and his family in the 1900 Census. She may have been living elswhere as her son Alvin died in 1901 , his wife Mary Jane Rine had remarried to Adam Breitweiser and this family appears to have been living in the Rine family home. 1912 . both parcels of land purchased by John in 1873 and 1874 were sold. Since both John and his son Alvin were deceased, the proceeds were divided between Alvin's widow Mary Jane and Alvin's children : No mention was made of Rachel, which indecated she was also deceased. The deed indext the County Recorders Office indecated "Jno W.
