According to "Churchill Family in America", Lemuel Churchill emigrated fr om Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1762 to Chebogue, Nova Scotia (which later b ecame known as Churchill's Landing). This was immediately after the e nd of the French and Indian Wars, the result of which was that England to ok possession of all of Canada. It is reasonable to suspect that English c olonists from elsewhere in the Americas would be attracted to new opportun ity in a newly peaceful Canadian territory. Lemuel, at about 40 years of a ge, appears to have been attracted to this chance for a new home.
For the next three generations, this line of Churchills lived in Canad a. As you will see, Lemuel's greatgrandson, Nathaniel, returned to what h ad since become the United States 61 years later. Interestingly, Nathani el may have thought that he was still in Canada in 1824 rather than northe rn Maine since the boundary was not officially set until 1842.
What follows is information on Lemuel's line for the next three generatio ns in Canada.
