- In 1834 Gilbert took a load of shingles by boat to Malden,
Essex Co. to trade for some horses. He was warned against
landing because of an epidemic of cholera, but did so,
contracting the sickness and dying there. Wilmot, against the
advice of her brothers John and Simon, went for the horses and
brought them back to Aylmer
