- Pam's history:
Born in Tacoma, weighing in at 3 lb. 4 oz., was cared for by her Aunt Iris as mother worked at the Tacoma ship yards and went back to work. At the age of 2 years 7 months the family moved to the Creager estate on Kreagor Lake 10 miles from Eatonville, on a 100 acre dairy farm. Her father also worked for the lumber mill in Eatonville.
She did not go to Kindergarten as the distance was to far to commute and her size prohibited acceptance. Age 6 she attended 1st then 2nd grade at Eatonville, Took swimming lessons at the school pool, but didn't learn to swim. Joined Brownie scouts and had the experience of her first Halloween trick or treating in Eatonville with brothers looking on from sidewalk.
The family belonged to the local grange and the first memory of performing was a Christmas performance at an early age of maybe 4. The piece was, Christmas is here and everything's done, My stocking ( I held up a very small sock, my size) has a hole in it, so I had to borrow one. (I pulled from behind my back a very large mans sock).
With the injury of her father the need for a change came and the farm was sold and a gas station was purchased in the town of Pacific Beach Washington, at the ocean. Pam attended Pacific elementary school, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Walked to school and had lunch most days at the local cafe, hamburger and milk most days but if an Eskimo pie was wanted she would forgo the milk. It was fun to attend the local movie theater for Saturday afternoon matinees for 25 cents, her best friend was Arlene Mann, and hide and seek was played by many children until dark each night.
The family moved to Algona as her father went to work for Boeing, followed soon by her mother going to work at Boeing also. She attended Algona elementary for 6th grade. Then on to Olympic Junior High and on to Auburn High School class of 63. Her best friends were Marlea Hargen and Mary Warren .
She Married her high school sweet heart, Kyly's father, Kenneth Schick, who was in the Navy, and spent some time in Long Beach, CA. Then lived in Renton and divorced Ken . Married James Knutson, went to work for the state of Wash., for the Department of Motor Vehicle, in 1975. She moved to Colfax, WA. With her 3 daughters in the spring 1979 and divorced James. Kyly graduated from Colfax high school in 1980. Then she promoted to supervisor in Walla Walla, WA in the fall of 1980. October 18,1981 she married James Thuirer, a United Methodist Pastor serving the Rosalia church, Jamie, her only daughter still at home, moved to Rosalia to attend school. Pam continued to work in Walla Walla during the week returning home to Rosalia on weekends.
She and husband Jim and daughter Jamie moved to North Bend, WA June of 1983 where she worked as Supervisor of the Lynnwood Drivers License Office and Jim served the Snoqualmie United Methodist Church and Jamie attended Snoqualmie Middle School and then Snoqualmie High School. Step Daughter Christal came to live with them and attended high school, Jamie and Christal were in the same grade and graduated together in 1988. Pam transfered to North Bend an supervised there from 1984 to 1991.
Jim received a reassignment to the Highland Park UMC in West Seattle in 1991 and Pam transferred to North Seattle DOL and commuted until 1997 when they purchased their own home in Ballard. Jim serviced the Everett Faith UMC in South Everett and Pam continued to work for the department until retiring in May 2000. [3]
