Reigned 1199-1216. Signed Magna Carta in 1215 at Runnymede.
His reign saw renewal of war with Phillip II Augustus of France to whom he has
lost several continental possesions including Normandy by 1205. He came in to
conflict with his Barons and was forced to Sign the Magna Carta. His later
repudiation of the charter led to the first barons war 1215-17 during which
John died. Burke says he was born in 1160.

John I Plantagenet, King of England married Isabella (Taillefer) d' Angouleme. He was born on 24 December 1166 in Beaumont Palace, Oxford, England. He was the son of Henry II Plantagenet, King Of England and Eleanor of Aquitane. He married Isabella de Clare, Countess of Glouscester, on 29 August 1189 in Marlborough Castle, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England . He had a liaison and child with Agatha Ferrers circa 1190-92. He and Isabella de Clare, Countess of Glouscester, were divorced in 1199. He died on 19 October 1216 in Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire, England , at age 49. He was buried in Worcester Cathedral, England . Brother of Richard I (Coeur de Lion), John obtained the crown on the death of Richard in 1199. He was also the King of Ireland (1177), Count of Mortai (1189) and Earl of Gloucester. John reigned from 1199 to his death in 1216. During his reign there was a renewal of war with Phillip II Augustus of France to whom he had lost man possessions, including Normandy by 1205. There was conflict between him and his Barons and he was force to sign the Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215. He later repudiated the charter which led to the Barons War from 1215-17 during which John died. John I Plantagenet, King of England was also known as John Lackland.
