Sir Edmund Sutton«/b» (1425\endash 1483) was a knight of Dudley Castle and Gatescombe. Sutton was born in «u»Dudley, England «/u», a son of «u»John Sutton, 1st Baron Dudley «/u», K.G, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Berkeley.
Edmund married Joyce Tiptoft, daughter of «u»John Tiptoft, 1st Baron Tiptoft «/u», ultimately coheir to the baronies of Cherleton and Tiptoft. She transmitted to the Dudley family the quarterings of Tiptoft, Cherleton, Holland, and that of «u»Edmund of Woodstock «/u», youngest son of King «u»Edward I of England «/u».
Edmund Sutton's exact date of death is not known, but it was after July 6, 1483, but before that of his father (who died 30 September 1487). He had a son Edward, (b. 1459), who was to become the «u»2nd Lord Dudley «/u».
His younger brother was John Dudley of Atherington. His son «u»Edmund Dudley «/u» (1462\endash 1510) was married to Elizabeth Grey, whom after this Edmund Dudley's execution wed «u»Arthur Plantagenet, 1st Viscount Lisle «/u», an illegitimate son of «u»Edward IV «/u». «u»John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland «/u» was the son of Edmund Dudley and Elizabeth Grey.
