Sir John Tiptoft, 1st Baron Tiptoft«/b» (died 27 January 1443), was a «u»Knight of the Shire «/u» for «u»Huntingdonshire «/u», and for «u»Somerset «/u», «u»Speaker of the House of Commons «/u», «u»Treasurer of the Household «/u», «u»Chief Butler of England «/u», Treasurer of the «u»Exchequer «/u», «u»Seneschal «/u» of «u»Landes «/u» and «u»Aquitaine «/u», Councillor of Regency, «u»Lord Steward of the Household «/u». On 7 January 1426 he was first Summonsed to Parliament whereby he was created «u»Baron Tiptoft «/u».
This English nobleman was the eldest son and heir of Sir «u»Pain Tiptoft «/u» (c1413) by his spouse, Agnes, née Wrothe (d.bef.1413). He was «u»Lord of the Manors «/u» of «u»Burwell «/u» and Eversden, in «u»Cambridgeshire «/u». In 1413 he was heir to his first cousin, Elizabeth Wrothe, wife of Sir William Palton, Knt., by which he inherited the manors of «u»Nether Wallop «/u», «u»Hampshire «/u», Worcesters (in «u»Enfield «/u»), «u»Middlesex «/u», and «u»Redlynch «/u» (in «u»Downton, Wiltshire «/u»).
He married twice: firstly, before 24 February 1408, a widow, Philippa Talbot (c. 1367\endash 1417), daughter of Sir John Talbot, of «u»Richard's Castle «/u», «u»Herefordshire «/u». They had no issue. He married secondly, by licence dated 28 February 1422, Joyce (c. 1404\endash 1446), younger daughter and co-heiress of «u»Edward Charleton, 5th Baron Cherleton «/u» by his spouse Eleanor Holand, a descendant of «u»King Edward I «/u». They had the following children:
