Son and heir. He was born in 1382, being aged 13 at his mother's death, and attaining his majority by Dec 1403. On 4 Jul 1398 a grant of 100 marks per annum was made to the «b»Bishop of London«/b» and «b»Edmund Hampdene«/b» for his maintenance during minority. His marriage had already (15 May) been granted to the «b»Bishop«/b», who in 1399 assigned it to «b»Elizabeth, Lady Clifford«/b», and others. On 28 Jul 1400 «b»Henry IV«/b» granted to «b»John, lord of Latymer«/b», still under age, custody of the manors of Scampston and Terrington. He was summoned to Parliament from 25 Aug 1404 to 27 Nov 1430, by writs directed «i»Johanni de Latymer«/i» or «i»Johanni Latymer chivaler«/i». He was one of the lords who on 22 Dec 1406 sealed the second Act of Succession and swore to support the same; and about that time his name occurs on a list of those summoned to attend a Great Council. He married, before 24 Jul 1406, «b»Maud«/b», daughter of «b»Thomas, 6th Lord Clifford«/b». From her he was divorced«i» casusa frigiditatis ujusdem «b»Johannis Nevill«/b»«/i» and, having no issue, he settled the greater part of his estate (although derived through his mother) on his brother of the half blood, «b»Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland«/b», to the exclusion of his heir, his sister of the whole blood, «b»Elizabeth«/b». He died s.p., 10 Dec 1430, desiring (in his will) to be buried in St. Mary's Abbey, York, "«i»where I have put my stone«/i»". His divorced wife «b»Maud«/b» married, as 2nd wife, «b»Richard, Earl of Cambridge«/b», who was executed 5 Aug 1415. She died s.p., 26 Aug 1446, and was buried in Roche Abbey, co. York. [Complete Peerage VII:476-7].
