- THE MEMOIRS OF ELDER SAMUEL BAKER
-a small blue covered pamphlet, inscribed on the front Esther
(Baker) Rosser, at the Baptist Archives, McMaster University

-written by himself in 1866
I was born in the Province of New Brunswick in 1797. It was
amongst the 'New Lights' that I heard that which made serious
impressions on my mind. After the death of my mother in 1806, I
left for Canada with my brother and two sisters, one being
Sarah. Then came under the teaching of Titus Finch
-fought in the War of 1812
bought 200 acres on the Talbot Road
married Lydia Mabee in the fall of 1815, then removed to
Malahide
once travelled 8 miles with his brother to hear a preacher at
the house of Joseph Davis
baptized by Elder Reuben Crandall on the second Sunday of
April, 1819. Elder Eberson also preached in the area. ( Rev.
George Eberson, from New Brunswick, the father-in-law of Jesse
Baker)by 1825 was going from place to place preaching, at Bro.
Elliott's (John Elliott, the husband of Elizabeth Anderson, and
brother to Nancy Edison), at Caradoc, Wallaceburg, Walpole, the
Furnace, Chatham, Zone, and Euphemia.
was ordained in November of 1828
mentions a sister married to James Freeman
In 1836, visited his native land; had not seen his brother for
30 years. The 'New Lights' had become numerous and were now
called Free Baptist.- travelled from Woodstock up the Saint
John preaching the Gospel.

- Elizabeth Mabee, eldest daughter of Deacon Oliver, married
Elder Samuel Baker, and settled on Talbot Street, in Malahide.
In the Baker family were three sons--Simon, Oliver and Judson;
and four daughters--Rhoda, who married John Gillett, of
Malahide; Mary Jane, who married a teacher named Roach, and
settled finally in the States; Sarah, who married Cyrus Abel,
of Malahide; and Jerusha, who married in the States.
