- PFP obituary read: Died: E.R. Mabie October 21, 1899, age 61
years. Mr. Mabie was born near Hamlin, New York, where he lived
until grown. He enlisted as a private with the New York
volunteers, serving during the war of the rebellion. Coming to
Kansas about 1867 he settled on the farm where his death
occurred. He was married to Miss Clara Esse in the spring of
1879, who with their children still survive. Death resulted
from a complication of lung troubles, though only sick for a
few weeks had been ailing for a number of years. Mr. Mabie was
a man well liked by all who knew him, sober, industrious,
devoted to his family, and living as he died, at peace with all
his neighbors. There were present at the death bed, besides the
family, his brother Theodore of Rockford, Ill., his sister
Theresa arriving the next day. The funeral services were
conducted by Rev. S. M. Irwin Saturday morning at the
Presbyterian church. The remains were laid away in the Geneva
cemetery.
