- Roelef was directly involved with the Baylor Massacre in
September 1778, at which time he was living with his father in
the house where Col. Baylor stayed, and was sympathetic to the
anti-American activities of hia neighbors and relatives. In
fact, Baylor's troops were no doubt so purposely supplied with
home brewed liquor by their hosts in the Overkill Neighborhood
on the night of their stay, that they were in no condition to
adequately repulse the action which surprised them
