- SURVIVING PIONEERS IN ELGIN AND NEIGHBORHOOD
Lydia Baker, daughter of Deacon Oliver Mabee, was born at
Niagara, January 22nd, 1797, and married Rev. Samuel C. Baker
in 1815. They moved to Malahide in March, 1816, and settled on
Talbot Street, near the town line of Bayham. They had five
daughters and three sons. He died in November 7th 1865, aged
68, and she still lives on the old place, quite smart.

- Elizabeth Mabee, eldest daughter of Deacon Oliver, married
Elder Samuel Baker, and settled on Talbot Street, in Malahide.
In the Baker family were three sons--Simon, Oliver and Judson;
and four daughters--Rhoda, who married John Gillett, of
Malahide; Mary Jane, who married a teacher named Roach, and
settled finally in the States; Sarah, who married Cyrus Abel,
of Malahide; and Jerusha, who married in the States.
