lived with s__ of Jacob Mabie. She told stories of Peter's
Revolutionary war experiences. of his escape from the British
by swimming three miles in salt water. She used to say to
Henry Clay in his early youth, 'Now you've inherited the French
characteristics, you are not Dutch.' She was very deaf, was a
woman of great force of character, used to sing quaint old
songs. Once was nearly frozen to death on the prairies of
