- Evidence in the claim of Eleanor Maybee widow of Peter Maybe
late of Albany County
Claimant swears:
Says she resided at Sorel in 1783. Her eldest son John is 12
years of age. She is married to Joseph Hoffman. Peter was a
Native of America lived at Saratoga joined the British in 1776,
joined Col Jessup died in Canada in the Winter of 1777 he had
been with Bourgogne
She went to Canada the Summer after her Husbands death.
No. 1. Her husband had 150 acres in Dutchess County He had it
by gift from his father 20 years age on his marriage. He lived
there 4 years 90 acres clear. He let it when he went away. She
thinks the rent was 19.c per annum
No.2. He went and settled at Saratoga on lease lands. He had a
lease for 3 hives 8 or 9 years before the War He had about 100
acres. Rent was £4.10 York after 10 years. He had improved 60
acres.
Has heard a rebel officer is settled on No. 1.
He had 2 good horses - 2 cows - 2 calves - 10 sheep - 16 hogs -
furniture and utensils.

- Peter and Elenor moved to Saratoga after having lived in
Dutchess County. Peter's estate in Saratoga was confiscated
because he was a Loyalist
