- Natalie had CHARGE Syndrome which is a combination of birth defects
including:
-colobomas of the irises,the retinas, and the optic nerves which
resultedin visual impairments,
-heart-Natalie had a hole between her ventricles whichwas
surgically repaired, she also had a mitral valve problem which caused
some inefficiency in her heart's functioning, and she had an unusual
heartbeat known as Wolf-Parkinson-White's Syndrome,
-atresia-a blockage of the airway, Natalie's consisted of a partial
blockage which went undiagnosed for about three years and necessitated
the she have a tracheostomy tube for about 3 anda half years,
-retardation-Nat had both mental and growth retardation,her
developmental abilities never exceeded those of a one or two year old and
she grew to the size of a small seven-year-old child by the time she died
at age thirteen,
-genitalia-no known abnormalities in this area,
-ears-Natalie was believed to have a mild to moderate hearing loss
in both ears.
Natalie died of congestive heart failure very suddenly while
she was at school.
Attempts to resusitate her failed.
