not a rich heiress and had to wait till the late 1450's for a husband, and when he came she was in her late twenties and he, in his fifties. «b»William, Lord Botreaux of North Cadbury«/b», Somerset, had fought at the great battle of Agincourt in 1415. He was rich and had already been married to «b»Elizabeth Beaumont«/b» daughter of «b»Lord Beaumont of Folkingham Castle«/b» in Lincolnshire. «b»William«/b»s daughter was ten years older than «b»Margaret«/b» and married to «b»Lord Hungerford«/b». As Lady Botreaux, «b»Margaret«/b» would have continued to serve «b»Queen Margaret«/b», moving from Westminster to Coventry and observing the dramatic events and early battles of The Wars of The Roses, firstly from the Royal Court and then, as the situation worsened, from the safety of her elderly husbands beautiful manors in Somerset.
The battle of St.Albans saw her much hated step-father, «b»Duke Edmund«/b» killed and her mother a widow once again. 1461 saw the terrible battle of Towton and the coronation of the first Yorkist King of England, «b»Edward IV«/b». «b»William, Lord Botreaux«/b» was probably ill and infirm, incapable of bearing arms even if he had wished to at this dangerous time, and he died on 16 May 1462 leaving «b»Margaret«/b» as a very wealthy widow indeed, quite a catch for some lucky fellow. The dowager «b»Lady Botreaux«/b»'s situation was not bright, however. Her step-brother's, real brother and step-daughters entire family were all Lancastrian rebels and traitors, all under act of Attainder - a sentence of death if caught. «b»Margaret«/b» chose to re-marry to someone she may very well have known, a man who was '«i»great about the King«/i»', a senior Yorkist officer who had just been dubbed a Knight at Christmas 1462 - «u»«b»Sir Thomas Borough of Gainsborough <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasBorough(1BGainsborough).htm>«/u»«/b» in Lincolnshire.
They married in 1463 as «b»Margaret«/b» step-brother, «b»Henry, Duke of Somerset«/b» had made peace with the Yorkist King, and becoming Captain of the Kings bodyguard... By 1464 «b»Somerset«/b» had once again changed sides, going back to the Lancastrians in the North of England, being captured at the battle of Hexham and behaeaded there, probably with «u»«b»Sir Thomas Borough <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasBorough(1BGainsborough).htm>«/u»«/b» watching. In the late 1480's «b»Lady Margaret«/b» became gravely ill, her husband acquiring expensive presecriptions from London Apothcaries in an attempt to make her well and to aleviate the suffering she evidently endured. Sadly, «b»Lady Borough«/b» passed away on the 10 Dec 1488, in the company of her family at Gainsborough manor aged just 57 years. «b»Margaret Ros«/b», dowager Lady Botreaux and Lady Borough, was laid to rest in the Borough family vault in Gainsborough parish church, re-built by her husband.
