was entrusted to his guardian, the «u»«b»Duke of Norfolk <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasHoward(4DNorfolk).htm>«/u»«/b». Young «b»George«/b» shared his brief childhood at Thetford with his three sisters who were prospective co-heiresses. Fell off a vaulting wooden horse, upon which he practised to leap, aged nine and died, which meant that the vast Dacre estates which covered great tracks of the north of England- including 70,000 acres of the Barony of Gillesland, lands in Cumberland including Greystoke and Dacre, 20,000 acres around Morpeth and 30,000 acres in Yorkshire- all came under the control of the Howard family. The children's uncle, «b»Lord Leonard Dacre«/b», was so incensed that his claim to be male heir was filed in the court whose marshal was the «u»«b»Duke of Norfolk <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasHoward(4DNorfolk).htm>«/u»«/b» himself. The court was therefore adapted for the «u»«b»Duke <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasHoward(4DNorfolk).htm>«/u»«/b»'s defence, but the final verdict prohibited «b»Lord Dacre«/b»'s descent to the barony.
