English conspirator, who «u»plotted <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Documents/Throckmorton_plot.htm>«/u» the unsuccessful attempt to overthrow «u»«b»Queen Elizabeth I <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>«/u»«/b» in 1583. The nephew of one of the «u»«b»Queen <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>«/u»«/b»'s diplomats, he was educated at Oxford, visited Europe, where he conspired with Catholic exiles, and returned in 1583 with a plot to restore papal authority. His brother «b»Thomas Throckmorton«/b», along with his brothers-in-law «b»Sir William Catesby«/b» and «b»Sir Thomas Tresham«/b», were amongst the leading rebels. The conspiracy was uncovered, he was tortured into a full confession, and executed.
