On 12 Feb 1539, Taunton Priory surrendered all its lands, including Gauldon manor, to «u»«b»Henry VIII <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutHenryVIII.htm>«/u»«/b». In 1544, the manor was sold by the Crown for £212 to «b»William Standish of London«/b», with remainder to his daughter, «b»Alice«/b», and her husband, «b»Francis Southwell of Norfolk«/b», and their heirs, and failing such heirs, to «b»John Mynne«/b» and his heirs. «b»Alice Standish«/b» had benn married, previous to Sir Francis, to «b»John Mynne«/b» (d. 14 Dec 1543), auditor of the Exchequer, Clerk tothe Surveyor General, and Master of the Woods. «b»William Standish«/b» died in 1553, and the manor went to his daughter, «b»Alice Southwell«/b», who died childless. Gauldon then went to the Mynne family in accordance with the original deed.
