Educated Christ Church Oxf. 1599; L. Inn 1602. Associate bencher, L. Inn 1604; custos brevium, court of common pleas C.1630; ranger, Ashdown forest; j.p. Suss. dep. lt. by 1624. It was his connexion with the «b»Sackville«/b» family that secured Compton his parliamentary seat at East Grinstead, though his own residence was close by. His association with the Sackvilles began in boyhood, when, in 1592, his mother made a second and disastrous marriage to «b»Robert Sackville, second Earl of Dorset«/b», then a widower. His own marriage naturally strengthened the connexion. «b»Compton«/b» died in or before Jul 1649, when the committee for compounding ordered that the heirs to his estate should pay the balance of his fine. No will has been found. Have no confirmation as of yet that «b»Henry«/b» was indeed son of «b»Henry Compton«/b» and «b»Cecily Sackville«/b». History of Parliament simply states that «b»Henry«/b» and «b»Cecily«/b» had ?3 sons and 3 daughters. It seems highly likely however given the ties to the Sackville family between the Comptons and Bridges families.
