      «b»Sarah (Sara)
      «/b»Meaning: princess
      Her original name was «u»Sarai «/u» («u»Genesis 11:29«/u»). She was the wife and at the same time the half-sister of «u»Abraham «/u» («u»Gen. 11:29 «/u»; «u»20:12 «/u»).
The name "Sarah" name was given to her at the time that it was announced to Abraham that she should be the mother of the promised child («u»Genesis 17:15 «/u»). Her story is from her marriage identified with that of the «u»patriarch «/u» till the time of her death.
Her death, at the age of one hundred and twenty-seven years (the only instance in Scripture where the age of a woman is recorded), was the occasion of Abraham's purchasing the «u»cave «/u» of «u»Machpelah «/u» as a family burying-place.
In the «u»allegory «/u» of «u»Gal. 4:22-31 «/u», she is the type of the "«u»Jerusalem «/u» which is above." She is also mentioned as Sara in «u»Hebrews 11:11 «/u» among the Old Testament worthies, who "all died in faith."

      Sarah«/b» or «b»Sara«/b» («u»Hebrew «/u»: , «u»Modern «/u» «i»Sara«/i» «u»Tiberian «/u» ; pronounced «u»/'s??r?/ «/u»; «u»Latin «/u»: «i»Sara«/i»; «u»Arabic «/u»: ) was the wife of «u»Abraham «/u» and the mother of «u»Isaac «/u» as described in the «u»Hebrew Bible «/u» and the «u»Quran «/u». Her name was originally «b»Sarai«/b». According to \ul«i»Genesis \ulnone«/i» 17:15 she changed her name to Sarah as part of a «u»covenant «/u» with «u»Yahweh «/u» after «u»Hagar «/u» bore Abraham his first born son «u»Ishmael «/u».

      «b»Sarai in rabbinic literature
«/b»Sarai was the half-sister of Abraham, being the daughter of his father «u»Terah «/u» (Genesis 20:12). The Talmud identifies Sarai with «u»Iscah «/u», daughter of Abraham's deceased brother «u»Haran «/u» (Genesis 11:29), so that Sarah turns to be the niece of Abraham and the sister of «u»Lot «/u» and «u»Milka «/u». She was so beautiful that all other persons seemed apes in comparison. Even the hardships of her journey with Abraham did not affect her beauty. She was superior to Abraham in the gift of prophecy. She was the "crown" of her husband; and he obeyed her words because he recognized her superiority. She was the only woman whom God deemed worthy to be addressed by Him directly, all the other prophetesses receiving their revelations through angels (ib. xlv. 14). She was originally called "Sarai". Later she was called "Sarah" i.e., "my princess," because she was the princess of her house and of her tribe; = "princess," because she was recognized generally as such.

      «b»Islam
«/b»In Islamic tradition, Sarah is the wife of Abraham (Ibrahim), a major «u»prophet «/u». Auda quotes Imam Al-Razi, Imam Al-Suyuti, Imam Al-Kamal Ibn Al-Humaam, Ibrahim married Sarah as she showed uncompromising commitment to God, after the rest abandoned Ibrahim. After marriage Ibrahim traveled with Sarah to «u»Ur «/u», then later to «u»Haran «/u», «u»Palestine «/u» and finally to «u»Egypt «/u».
After their marriage, Sarah and Ibrahim had no children. Sarah, knowing that Ibrahim desired a child, gave her handmaiden «u»Hajar «/u» to Ibrahim in marriage. Sarah and Ibraham received some guests one day who brought them two prophecies: the destruction of the people of Lot and that Sarah would bear a son, despite her and Ibrahim's advanced age. The promise was fulfilled in due time, and Sarah bore Isaac.
