Luke 3:36

«b»Lamech (Lemek)
«/b»The original meaning of this very ancient name is unknown. It is from an unused root of uncertain meaning. A number of widely varying possible meanings have been suggested by researchers, including: man of prayer; powerful; youth; strong young man; conqueror; one who overthrows; destroyer; the strikerdown.
This was the name of two men who lived before the biblical Flood.
 A son of «u»Methushael «/u». He had two sons, «u»Jabal «/u» and «u»Jubal «/u», by his wife «u»Adah «/u». «u»Zillah «/u» bore him a daughter named «u»Naamah «/u» and a son, «u»Tubal-Cain «/u».
"The fifth in descent from «u»Cain «/u». He was the first to violate the primeval ordinance of marriage («u»Gen. 4:18-24 «/u»). His address to his two wives, «u»Adah «/u» and «u»Zillah «/u» («u»4:23,24 «/u»), is the only extant example of antediluvian «u»poetry «/u». It has been called 'Lamech's sword-song.' He was 'rude and ruffianly,' fearing neither God nor man. With him the curtain falls on the race of Cain. We know nothing of his descendants." (Author: Matthew G. Easton)
The father of «u»Noah «/u», and a man mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ («u»Luke 3:36 «/u»). He was a son of the oldest known man and «u»patriarch «/u» «u»Methuselah «/u». «u»Noah «/u» was the oldest of Lamech's several sons («u»Gen. 5:25-31 «/u»; «u»Luke 3:36 «/u»). Lamech was 777 years old when he died («u»Gen. 5:31 «/u»), and was the seventh in descent from Seth. He is the only son of «u»Methuselah «/u» that is mentioned in the Bible.
