      «/b»Meaning: possession; smith
The name of two biblical men…
The fourth «u»antediluvian «/u» «u»patriarch «/u», the eldest son of «u»Enos «/u». He was 70 years old at the birth of his eldest son «u»Mahalaleel «/u», after which he lived 840 years («u»Gen. 5:9-14 «/u»), and was 910 years old when he died. He is also called Kenan (1 Chr. 1:2).
The son of «u»Arphaxad «/u» (Luke 3:36). He is nowhere named in the Old Testament. He is usually called the "second Cainan."

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenan

      Kenan«/b» (also spelled «i»Qenan«/i» or «i»Kaïnan«/i», as found in Luke 3:36, 37), «u»Hebrew «/u»: , «u»Modern «/u» «i»Qeinan«/i» «u»Tiberian «/u» «i»Qên«/i» ; "possession; smith", or «b»Cainan«/b», was a «u»Biblical «/u» patriarch first mentioned in the «u»Hebrew Bible «/u» «u»Book of Genesis «/u» as living before the Great Flood.
According to Genesis 5:9-14, he was the grandson of «u»Seth «/u» and son of «u»Enos «/u». Born when Enos was ninety years old,[\ul«i»citation needed \ulnone«/i»] Kenan had his only named son, «u»Mahalalel «/u», when he was seventy.[\ul«i»citation needed \ulnone«/i»] Other sons and daughters were born to Kenan before he died at 910 years of age.
This name seems to derive from words denoting a permanent dwelling place or stronghold.
In Islamic miniatures «u»Noah's Ark «/u» is sometimes depicted with a kind of manned «u»diving bell «/u» next to it. Long thought of as a puzzling reference to «u»Iskandar «/u», famous for his underwater exploits, alternative Flood stories show this occupant to be the disobedient Kenan, trying to escape the waters his own way (only to drown in urine inside his contraption as God punishes him with a bladder infection).«u»[1]«/u»
      «b»Postdiluvian Cainan
«/b»Two men named Cainan are mentioned in the «u»genealogy of Jesus «/u» given in «u»Luke «/u» 3 in the «u»New Testament «/u». One of these is the son of Enos above; a second Cainan is listed as the son of «u»Arpachshad «/u» and father of «u»Salah «/u», who lived in the time between «u»Noah «/u» and «u»Abraham «/u».
This Cainan also appears in the «u»Septuagint «/u» (Greek) Old Testament, but is omitted by the «u»Hebrew «/u» «u»Masoretic text «/u». For this reason, this second Cainan is considered to be a scribal error by some scholars.«u»[2]«/u» Nevertheless, a substantial number of traditions about this other Cainan exist in the history of literature.
