Notes on John Bolles and Jane Chute: Records founds in the Ancestral Files of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (and used in numerous websites and family record files) are the source of the data indicating that John Bolles (b. 1606) was the son of Thomas Bolles (b. 1576) and Elizabeth Perkins, born «i»1603«/i». Another file reverses these dates, making John Bolles 3 years older than his own mother. Rather than perpetuating these rather startling errors, I would prefer to toss this Elizabeth into the NBL (for "not bloody likely!") pile, and hope that further research reveals that either her date of birth has suffered from a bad transcription and even worse copying, or that John's mother was a different Elizabeth Perkins - or someone else - altogether. In either case was, one hopes that she was, in fact, somewhat older than the age of 3 before she had a son. Some genealogists make the automatic assumption that John's father had an unnamed first wife, who was the mother of his children. In other sources, the surname is spelled "Bowles".
