Sir John Acland was the son of John Akeland «/u» and «u»Margaret Radcliffe He married, firstly, Elizabeth Rolle, daughter of George Rolle«/u».«sup»1«/sup» He married, secondly, Margaret Portman«/u», daughter of «u»Sir Henry Portman He died in 1620. His will (dated 9 February 1619/20) was probated on 4 July 1620.
Sir John Acland held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Saltash in 1586/87. He was invested as a Knight on 15 March 1603/4 at Tower of London, The City, London, England, by King James I.
