«b»William de Brus, 3rd Lord of Annandale«/b» (died «u»July 16 «/u», «u»1212 «/u») was the second but eldest surviving son of «u»Robert de Brus, 2nd Lord of Annandale «/u».
His elder brother, «u»Robert III de Brus «/u», predeceased their father and never held the lordship of «u»Annandale «/u». William de Brus thus succeeded his father when the latter died in 1194.
William de Brus possessed large estates in the north of England. He obtained from King «u»John «/u», the grant of a weekly market at «u»Hartlepool «/u», and granted lands to the canons of «u»Gisburn «/u».«u»[1]«/u» Very little else is known about William's activities. He makes a few appearances in the English government records and witnessed a charter of King «u»William of Scotland «/u».
He married a woman called Christina, and had by her at least two sons,
