Robert Carr, 1st and last Earl of Somerset was born circa 1587.«sup»3«/sup» He was the son of «u»Sir Thomas Kerr <http://www.thepeerage.com/p1223.htm#i12222>«/u» and «u»Janet Scott <http://www.thepeerage.com/p1223.htm#i12223>«/u». He married «u»Frances Howard <http://www.thepeerage.com/p10302.htm#i103019>«/u», daughter of «u»Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk <http://www.thepeerage.com/p10302.htm#i103012>«/u» and «u»Katherine Knyvett <http://www.thepeerage.com/p10302.htm#i103014>«/u», on 26 December 1613. He died circa July 1645 at «u»London, England «/u», without male issue.«sup»4«/sup» He was buried on 17 July 1645.
Robert Carr, 1st and last Earl of Somerset gained the title of «i»1st Earl of Somerset«/i» in 1613. In 1616 he was, with his wife, found guilty of murder, but was pardoned in 1624. He has an extensive biographical entry in the «i»Dictionary of National Biography.«sup»5«/i»«/sup»
