In «u»523 «/u»-«u»524 «/u», possibly at the instigation of his mother «u»Clotilde <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotilde>«/u», who was eager to avenge her nephew who had been assassinated by «u»Sigismund of Burgundy <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigismund_of_Burgundy>«/u», Chlodomer joined with his brothers in an expedition against the «u»Burgundians <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgundians>«/u». After capturing Sigismund, Chlodomer returned to Orléans. However, Sigismund's brother «u»Gondomar <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondomar_of_Burgundy>«/u» returned triumphantly to «u»Burgundy <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgundy>«/u» at the head of the troops sent by his ally, the «u»Ostrogothic <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrogoth>«/u» king «u»Theodoric the Great <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodoric_the_Great>«/u». There, he massacred the garrison the «u»Franks <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franks>«/u» had left behind.
Although victorious, Chlodomer had Sigismund and his sons «u»Gisald «/u» and «u»Gondebaud «/u»assassinated on «u»May 1«/u», «u»524.«/u» He then led a second expedition against the Burgundians.
He was killed on this expedition, in the spring or summer of the same year, at the «u»Battle of Vézeronce <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_V%C3%A9zeronce>«/u». His three sons were entrusted to his mother until his widow married «u»Clotaire I <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotaire_I>«/u». Clotaire, however, had Chlodomer's children killed, although Clodoald managed to escape. Better known as Saint Cloud, he later became abbot of «u»Nogent <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nogent>«/u», having given up his hair, the symbol of the Frankish royalty, rather than giving up his life.
