Amazasp I«/b» («u»Georgian «/u»: ) was a king of «u»Iberia «/u» («u»Kartli «/u», modern eastern «u»Georgia «/u») whose reign is placed by the early medieval Georgian historical compendia in the 2nd century. Professor «u»Cyril Toumanoff «/u» suggests 106-116 as the years of his reign and considers him to be the son and successor of «u»Mithridates I of Iberia «/u» who is known from epigraphic material as a «u»Rome «/u»'s ally.
The Georgian chronicles report Amazasp's joint, ten-years long, rule with Derok (Deruk) and make «u»Armazi «/u» as his seat (as opposite to Derok's residence at «u»Mtskheta «/u»). Many modern scholars, however, consider the Iberian «u»diarchy «/u» a pure legend and argue Amazasp was the king in his own right.«u»[1]
