Sírna Sáeglach«/b» ("the long-lived"),«u»[1]«/u» son of Dian, son of Demal, son of «u»Rothechtaid mac Main «/u», was, according to medieval Irish legend and historical tradition, a «u»High King of Ireland «/u». He separated the province of «u»Ulster «/u» from the authority of the High King, and is said to have made war against the «u»Ulaid «/u», who had killed his great grandfather, for a hundred years according to the «u»«i»Lebor Gabála Érenn «/u»«/i»,«u»[2]«/u» 150 years according to the «u»«i»Annals of the Four Masters «/u»«/i»,«u»[3]«/u» but «u»Geoffrey Keating «/u», citing an ancient poem, gives him only twenty-one years.«u»[4]«/u» According to one version of the «i»Lebor Gabála«/i», the Ulaid united with the «u»Fomorians «/u» and gave him battle at Móin Trógaide in «u»County Meath «/u», but a plague fell on them and the leaders of both sides died. According to another version, agreed by Keating and the Four Masters, Sírna was killed by «u»Rothechtaid Rotha «/u» at Alind. The «i»Lebor Gabála«/i» synchronises the start of his reign with the reign of «u»Deioces «/u» of the «u»Medes «/u» (694\endash 665 BC), and his death with his successor «u»Phraortes «/u» (665\endash 633 BC). The chronology of Keating's «i»Foras Feasa ar Éirinn«/i» dates his reign to 814\endash 794 BC, that of the «i»Annals of the Four Masters«/i» to 1181\endash 1031 BC.
