Giallchad«/b», son of Ailill Olcháin, son of «u»Sírna Sáeglach «/u», was, according to medieval Irish legend and historical tradition, a «u»High King of Ireland «/u». He took power after killing his predecessor, and the son of his grandfather's killer, «u»Elim Olfínechta «/u», in the battle of Comair Trí nUisce. He is said to have taken one out of every five men of «u»Munster «/u» hostage. He reigned for nine years, before being killed by Elim's son «u»Art Imlech «/u» at Mag Muaide. The «u»«i»Lebor Gabála Érenn «/u»«/i» synchronises his reign with that of «u»Phraortes «/u» of the «u»Medes «/u» (665-633 BC).«u»[1]«/u» The chronology of «u»Geoffrey Keating «/u»'s «i»Foras Feasa ar Éirinn«/i» dates his reign to 786-777 BC,«u»[2]«/u» that of the «i»Annals of the Four Masters«/i» to 1023-1014 BC.«u»[3]
