Nuadu Necht«/b» ("the pure"),«u»[1]«/u» son of Sétna Sithbac, a descendant of «u»Crimthann Coscrach «/u», of the «u»Laigin «/u», was, according to medieval Irish legend and historical tradition, a «u»High King of Ireland «/u».He came to power after killing his predecessor, «u»Eterscél «/u», and ruled for six months, at the end of which he was killed by Eterscél's son «u»Conaire Mór «/u».
The «u»«i»Lebor Gabála Érenn «/u»«/i» synchronises his reign with that of the «u»Roman emperor «/u» «u»Augustus «/u» (27 BC - AD 14), and after the birth of «u»Christ «/u», and makes him contemporary with legendary provincial kings «u»Conchobar mac Nessa «/u», «u»Cairbre Nia Fer «/u» and «u»Ailill mac Máta «/u».«u»[2]«/u» The chronology of «u»Geoffrey Keating «/u»'s «u»«i»Foras Feasa ar Éireann «/u»«/i» dates his reign to 64-63 BC,«u»[3]«/u» that of the «u»«i»Annals of the Four Masters «/u»«/i» to 111-110 BC.«u»[4]«/u» The «i»Four Masters«/i» combine his reign with that of «u»Ér, Orba, Ferón and Fergna «/u» centuries before, to make a whole year in their chronology.«u»[5]«/u»
In the «u»Fenian Cycle «/u» he is the great grandfather of «u»Fionn mac Cumhaill «/u»: his son is the druid «u»Tadg mac Nuadat «/u», whose daughter, «u»Muirne «/u», is Fionn's mother. It is suggested that he is connected to the presumed «u»deities «/u» (or possibly two names for one deity) «u»Nuada Airgetlám «/u» and «u»Nechtan «/u» of the «u»Tuatha Dé Danann «/u».«u»[6]«/u»
