«b»Tancred of Hauteville«/b» (c. 1119 \endash 1138), one of many of that name, was the Prince of «u»Bari «/u» and «u»Taranto «/u» from 1132 to 1138.
He was the second son of «u»Roger II of Sicily «/u» and his first wife «u»Elvira of Castile «/u». His maternal grandparents were «u»Alfonso VI of Castile «/u» and his queen Isabel, possibly the same person as Zaida, converted daughter-in-law of «u»al-Mutamid «/u» of «u»Seville «/u».
He was named by his father to replace the rebellious «u»Grimoald, Prince of Bari «/u», in 1132. He was only about fifteen or sixteen years old at the time. When he grew to adulthood, he became, along with his brothers «u»Roger «/u», «u»duke of Apulia «/u», and «u»Alfonso «/u», «u»prince of Capua «/u», one of his father's chief men on the peninsula, while the king himself remained mostly in «u»Sicily «/u». He died young in 1138 and «u»William «/u», his other brother, inherited his estates and titles.
