«b»Lucius Julius Caesar«/b» (known[«u»«i»by whom? «/u»«/i»] with the numeral "III"; «i»c.«/i» 135 BC\endash 87 BC) was a son of «u»Lucius Julius Caesar (II) «/u», and elder brother to «u»Gaius Julius Caesar Strabo Vopiscus «/u». Lucius was involved in the downfall of tribune of «u»Lucius Appuleius Saturninus «/u» in 100 BC and became «u»praetor «/u» in 94 BC without being a «u»quaestor «/u» and «u»aedile «/u» first. Later he became «u»Macedonian «/u» Governor.
Lucius became consul in 90 BC. During his consulship, he defeated the «u»Samnites «/u». Lucius proposed Roman Citizenship laws to allies who didn't participate in the «u»Social War «/u» against Rome in 90 BC. This proposal became known as the «u»«i»Julian Law «/u»«/i». Later he became «u»censor «/u» and due to the success of the Julian Law, became responsible for dividing new citizens into voting districts. His colleague in this was a former consul, «u»Publius Licinius Crassus Dives (consul 97 BC) «/u» (father of «u»triumvir «/u», «u»Marcus Licinius Crassus «/u»).
Lucius and his brother were killed together in 87 BC at the beginning of the «u»Civil War «/u» by partisans of «u»Gaius Marius «/u». They died fighting in the streets. According to «u»Livy «/u», their heads were exposed on the speaker's platform.
His children were «u»Lucius Julius Caesar IV «/u» and «u»Julia Antonia «/u».
