The «b»«i»Popilii Laenates«/b»«/i» was the name of an ancient «u»Roman «/u» «u»Plebs «/u» family, who lived during the era of the Roman Republic. The «i»Popilii«/i» were known for their cruel and arrogant nature. The gens name «i»Popilii«/i» is of «u»Etruscan «/u» origin.
«i»Poppilia«/i» or «i»Poppillia«/i» was the name given to the women of the «i»Popilius Laenas«/i» family. During the Roman Republic, there were two women with the name «i»Poppilia«/i»:
«tab» Poppilia, wife of «u»Lucius Julius Caesar «/u» II. Their children were «u»Lucius Julius Caesar «/u» III (consul of 90 BC and later senator) and a «u»Gaius Julius Caesar Strabo Vopiscus «/u» (a humble orator). Strabo Vopiscus might have had a twin brother. She was the paternal grandmother to the consul «u»Lucius Julius Caesar «/u» IV and «u»Julia Antonia «/u» (mother to «u»Roman «/u» Triumvir «u»Mark Antony «/u»). Poppilia died in December 110 BC.
