«/b»In «u»Greek mythology «/u», «b»Melaneus«/b» was the son of «u»Apollo «/u» and «u»Pronoe «/u», a nymph. He was the founder of «u»Oechalia «/u» (Oikhalia), variously located in «u»Thessaly «/u», «u»Messenia «/u» or «u»Eubonea «/u»
Melaneus inherited Apollo's archery skills and was a noted archer, and married «u»Stratonice «/u». He was the father of «u»Eurytus «/u», the famous archer whose reputation overshadowed his father. Stratonice was later carried away by Apollo. Alternative, Melaneus was the husband of Oechalia (merely the eponym of the kingdom he ruled).
Amphimedon, a «u»suitor «/u» in «u»Homer «/u»'s «u»Odyssey «/u» is mentioned as being the son of Melaneus, although it may or may not be the same Melaneus mentioned here. The ghost of «u»Agamemnon «/u» says that he went with Melaneus to persuade «u»Odysseus «/u» in their fight against Troy. After a whole month, the two men finally persuaded Odysseus to join them.«u»[1]«/u»
