Jokshan«/b» ("an offense", "hardness", or "a knocking"); most probably Josephus' «b»Jazar«/b».«u»[1]«/u» According to the «u»Bible «/u» he was the second son of «u»Abraham «/u» and his concubine«u»[2]«/u» «u»Keturah «/u», whom he wed after the death of «u»Sarah «/u».«u»[3]«/u» Jokshan had five other brothers: «u»Zimran «/u», «u»Medan «/u», «u»Midian «/u», «u»Ishbak«/u» and «u»Shuah «/u» «u»[4]«/u»; as well as two half brothers: «u»Ismael «/u» and «u»Isaac «/u».

Josephus records that "Abraham contrived to settle them in colonies; and they took possession of Troglodytis and the country of Arabia the Happy, as far as it reaches to the Red Sea."«u»[5]«/u» Abraham in all probability, tried to keep them apart from Isaac to avoid conflict while fulfilling God's commission to spread out and inhabit the globe.«u»[6][7][8]«/u» It is thought that Jokshan peopled part of «u»Arabia «/u», specifically «u»Yemen «/u», and to be the person whom the «u»Arabians «/u» called «u»Qahtan «/u» and acknowledged as the head of their nation.
      Jokshan became the father of «u»Sheba «/u» and «u»Dedan «/u». Dedan had three sons, named «u»Asshurim «/u», «u»Letushim «/u», and «u»Leummim«/u».«u»[9]«/u»
