      Gomer«/b» ( , «u»Standard Hebrew «/u» «b»Gómer«/b», «u»Tiberian Hebrew «/u» «b»G«/b», pronounced «u»[go'mer] «/u») is the eldest son of «u»Japheth «/u» (and therefore of the «u»Japhetic «/u» line), and father of «u»Ashkenaz «/u», «u»Riphath «/u», and «u»Togarmah «/u», according to the "«u»Table of Nations «/u»" in the «u»Hebrew Bible «/u». («u»Genesis «/u» 10).
The «u»eponymous «/u» Gomer, "standing for the whole family," as the compilers of the «u»«i»Jewish Encyclopedia «/u»«/i» expressed it, is also mentioned in «u»Book of Ezekiel «/u» 38:6 as the ally of «u»Gog «/u», the chief of the land of «u»Magog «/u».
In Islamic folklore, the Persian historian «u»Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari «/u» (c. 915) recounts a Persian tradition that Gomer lived to the age of 1000, noting that this record equalled that of «u»Nimrod «/u», but was unsurpassed by anyone else mentioned in the Torah.
