«/b»Not to be confused with «u»Elisha «/u».
«b»
Elishah«/b» was the son of «u»Javan «/u» according to the «u»Book of Genesis «/u» (10:4) as well as the mediaeval, rabbinic «u»«i»Book of Jasher «/u»«/i»; he is said in «i»Jasher«/i» to have been the ancestor of the "Almanim", possibly a reference to «u»Germanic tribes «/u» («u»Alamanni«/u»). The Greek «u»Septuagint«/u» of Genesis 10 lists «i»Elisa«/i» not only as the son of Javan, but also among the sons of «u»Japheth «/u», possibly a copyist's error.
The «u»Portuguese «/u» «u»orator «/u» and «u»mythographer «/u» Father «u»António Vieira «/u» refers to him as being the mortal ancestor of «u»Lusus «/u» (his divine ancestor being his father «u»Bacchus «/u»), founder and eponym of «u»Lisbon «/u» and «u»Lusitania «/u» (when he and his brother «u»Tarshish «/u», the founder of «u»Tartessos «/u», came to «u»Iberia «/u» with their uncle «u»Tubal «/u»), as well as the origin of the name of the «u»mythological «/u» «u»Elysium «/u».
Othershave identified Elishah with «u»Cypriots «/u»; in ancient times the island or part of it was known as «u»Alashiya «/u».
«b»http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sons_of_Noah
«u»«/b»Elishah «/u», son of Javan. Identifications have been proposed with various Aegean peoples such as «u»Elis «/u» of northwestern «u»Peloponnesos «/u», or Ellis of «u»Phthia «/u».
