Raamah«/b» or «u»Rama «/u» is a name found in the Bible (Hebrew: , Ra means "lofty, exalted, that also may mean "thunder".
The name is first mentioned as the fourth son of «u»Cush «/u», who is the son of «u»Ham «/u», who is the son of «u»Noah «/u» in «u»Gen. «/u» 10:7, and later appears as a country that traded with the «u»Phoenician «/u» city-state of «u»Tyre «/u», in «u»Ezek. «/u» 27:22. It has been connected with «u»Rhammanitae «/u» mentioned by «u»Strabo «/u» in the southwest Arabian peninsula, and with an Arabian city of «u»Regmah «/u» at the head of Persian Gulf. He is the brother of «u»Nimrod «/u», who founded several cities in «u»Mesopotamia «/u», including «u»Babylon «/u» and «u»Nineveh «/u». We know from the inscriptions of ancient «u»Sheba «/u» that Raamah's descendants settled near to the land of «u»Havilah«/u» to the east of «u»Ophir «/u».
This country of «i»Raamah«/i» is usually assumed to be somewhere in the region of «u»Yemen «/u»; «u»Sheba «/u» was a son of Raamah, and his descendants are often held to be included among the «u»Sabeans «/u». The «u»Yemenites «/u» are dark-skinned as are the descendants of their progenitor's eponymous grandfather, «u»Kush «/u» or «u»Cush «/u», commonly translated in the Bible as «u»Ethiopia «/u», meaning dark. «u»Dedan «/u», son of Raamah. Apparently a region of the «u»Tabuk «/u» Province of Saudi Arabia.
However, there was also an «u»Israelite «/u» city called «u»«i»Ramah «/u»«/i», somewhat closer to «u»Tyre «/u».
