Shuttarna II«/b» (or «b»Šuttarna«/b») was a king of the «u»Hurrian «/u» kingdom of «u»Mitanni «/u» in the early «u»14th century BC «/u».
Shuttarna was a descendant and probably a son of the great Mitannian king «u»Artatama I «/u». He was an ally of the Egyptian Pharaoh «u»Amenhotep III «/u» and the diplomatic dealings of the kings are briefly recorded in the «u»Amarna letters «/u». Shuttarna's daughter Kilu-Hepa (sometimes spelled «u»Gilukhepa «/u») was given to Amenhotep III in marriage to seal the alliance between the two royal houses in the Pharaoh's 10th regnal year, taking with her a great dowry.
During the reign of Shuttarna the kingdom of Mitanni reached its height of power and prosperity. From «u»Alalakh «/u» in the west Mitanni shared its border with Egypt in northern Syria approximately by the river «u»Orontes «/u». The heart of the kingdom was in the «u»Habur river «/u» basin where the capital «u»Washshukanni «/u» was situated. «u»Assyria «/u» as well as «u»Arrapha «/u» in the east were vassal kingdoms of Mitanni. The «u»Hittites «/u» attempted to invade the northern border lands of Mitanni but were defeated by Shuttarna.
He was succeeded by his son «u»Tushratta «/u» or possibly «u»Artashumara «/u» under dubious circumstances.
