Sobekemsaf I«/b» (or more properly «b»Sekhemre Shedtawy Sobekemsaf«/b») was an «u»Egyptian «/u» king of the «u»Seventeenth dynasty of Egypt «/u» who reigned during the «u»Second Intermediate Period «/u», when Egypt was ruled by multiple kings (he was once thought to belong to the late «u»Thirteenth Dynasty «/u»). His throne name, Sekhemre Shedtawy, means "Powerful is Re; Rescuer of the Two Lands." It is now believed by Egyptologists that Sobekemsaf I was the father of both «u»Intef VI «/u» and «u»Intef VII «/u» based on an inscription carved on a door jamb discovered from the ruins of a 17th dynasty temple at Gebel Antef in the early 1990's which was built under Nebkheperre «u»Intef VII «/u». The door jamb mentions a king Sobekem[saf] as the father of Nebkheperre Intef/Antef VII--(«i»Antef begotten of Sobekem...«/i»)
According to the Abbott and Leopold-Amherst Papyrus, which is dated to Year 16 of Ramesses IX, Sekhemre Shedway Sobekemsaf was married and buried along with to «u»Queen Nubkhaas «/u».
